Software Engineering Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Model Development team in Oxford. You will oversee multiple squads building and operating critical forecasting models that support global energy decisions on the path to net‑zero.

Key responsibilities

• People & Culture: Line‑manage senior engineers, conduct performance reviews, and mentor squad leads.
• Delivery Excellence: Own sprint cadence, capacity planning, blocker removal, and process quality across 3–4 squads using modern Agile and Continuous Delivery practices.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify friction, introduce modern tooling and evaluate AI solutions to optimise requirements gathering and sprint analytics.
• Commercial Alignment: Partner with Product to translate engineering capacity into realistic commercial priorities.
• Talent & Growth: Identify training needs, close skills gaps, and manage end‑to‑end recruitment to build a strong hiring pipeline.

Required profile

• 4–6+ years of engineering management experience with mixed technical teams.
• Solid software engineering background; have written production code and can hold technical discussions with senior engineers.
• Hands‑on experience implementing Agile/CD practices to raise delivery maturity.
• Proven people‑leadership skills, including performance conversations, development plans, and empathetic feedback.
• Experience running hiring processes and building strong pipelines.
