Software Team Lead

About the role

Smartbox Assistive Technology is seeking a hands‑on Software Team Lead to drive the development of innovative augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) solutions across Windows, iOS and cloud platforms. This hybrid role (minimum two days in the Bristol office) combines people leadership with active coding, ensuring that the team delivers high‑impact products that give a voice to users with speech difficulties.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a cross‑functional team of Software Engineers and QA specialists.
• Collaborate with product, design and technical leaders to shape road‑maps and prioritize user‑focused outcomes.
• Write and review clean, maintainable C# (.NET 10) code and contribute to the full software lifecycle.
• Champion modern engineering practices, including the practical use of AI‑assisted development tools.
• Drive agile delivery through collaborative planning, continuous improvement and shared ownership.
• Ensure reliability, usability and performance of solutions that directly affect users' daily lives.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading high‑performing agile software teams.
• Strong background in C# and .NET (or comparable languages such as Java or C++).
• Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable user or business outcomes.
• Experience using AI‑assisted development tools to boost team effectiveness.
