Sonographer - Non-Obstetric Ultrasound

About the role

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is recruiting a Sonographer for its Non-Obstetric Ultrasound team. The post involves rotation between the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the new Community Diagnostic Centre in Telford. It suits a self-motivated, well organised Sonographer who can work autonomously and deliver a quality ultrasound service in both acute and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including managing patients in your care
• Perform a varied range of unsupervised scans to a high standard
• Issue an independent report and arrange follow-up procedures such as abdominal X-rays and further scans
• Suggest specialist referrals or other investigations
• Communicate clearly with patients and carers, explaining procedures and obtaining informed consent
• Occasionally prepare sterile trolleys for biopsies, aspirations and drainages and help during these procedures, disposing of used instruments safely

Required profile

• DMU or PgDip (CASE accredited or equivalent) in Medical Ultrasound
• HCPC registration
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• Desirable: specialist interest in MSK, neck sonography, paediatrics or vascular scanning
