Sous Chef – Bank Position

About the role

Avery Healthcare Group is seeking a warm, enthusiastic Sous Chef to join the award‑winning culinary team at Elton House Care Home in Watford. Working on a bank (flexible) basis, you will support the Head Chef in delivering nutritious, high‑quality meals that enhance residents’ wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in planning and preparing balanced meals within budget.
• Prepare modified diets that are visually appealing and comply with IDDSI guidelines.
• Supervise and direct culinary staff, providing hands‑on instruction for simple food preparation.
• Ensure all food handling follows the highest hygiene and safety standards.
• Support the team in adhering to Avery’s Food Safety Management System.

Required profile

• Live the company values of caring, support, honesty, respect and accountability.
• Hold a relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2, NVQ or equivalent).
• Minimum of 1 year catering experience, preferably in a care‑home or healthcare setting.
• Demonstrate compassion and a commitment to high‑quality culinary service.
• Flexible and adaptable to cover varied responsibilities at short notice.
