Sous Chef

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Sous Chef to join the catering team at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College. You will help deliver high‑quality meals to students, staff and visitors while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily production of food across all college catering outlets, ensuring consistent quality and presentation.
• Manage kitchen workflow, staff deployment and production schedules efficiently.
• Deputise for the Executive Chef, taking full responsibility for kitchen operations in their absence.
• Ensure daily compliance with HACCP, UK food‑safety legislation and allergen‑management protocols.
• Supervise, train and develop the kitchen brigade, fostering teamwork and culinary excellence.
• Control stock, support purchasing and implement waste‑reduction strategies.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie in a high‑volume kitchen.
• Level 2 and/or Level 3 catering/hospitality qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Level 3 Food Safety Certificate with strong knowledge of HACCP and allergen management.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to motivate and develop a kitchen team.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach.
