Sous Chef

About the role

Join the culinary team at Edenbridge Manor Care Home, supporting the Head Chef in delivering nutritious, high‑quality meals for residents. You will help create balanced menus, ensure food safety, and contribute to a caring environment where every meal makes a difference.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing the kitchen and supervising staff.
• Prepare modified diets that are appealing, nutritionally balanced, and compliant with IDDSI guidelines.
• Direct and train unqualified staff on basic food preparation techniques.
• Maintain the highest hygiene standards by applying safe food‑handling principles.
• Support the team in understanding and following Avery’s Food Safety Management System.

Required profile

• Live the values of caring, support, honesty, respect, and accountability.
• Hold a relevant catering qualification – City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year catering experience, preferably in a care‑home or similar setting.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to high‑quality resident care.
• Flexible and adaptable to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.

Required skills

• Food safety standards and hygiene practices.
• IDDSI diet preparation guidelines.
• Formal catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1, 706/2 or NVQ).
