Space Planner – Store Layout & Optimization

About the role

As a Space Planner within Bensons for Beds’ Property & Store Planning team, you will be responsible for creating efficient, customer‑focused store environments. You will develop and maintain store plans, support new openings, refits and relocations, and collaborate with Commercial, Retail Operations, Visual Merchandising and Supply Chain to optimise space utilisation.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse store‑level and product performance to produce precise product range plans and store grading.
• Track and report Sales per Square Foot and Profit per Square Foot, identifying under‑performing displays and recommending layout changes.
• Review heat‑mapping data to pinpoint cold spots and improve the customer journey.
• Prepare detailed store product range plans for refits, relocations and new openings, ordering required stock.
• Conduct regular store surveys to assess space utilisation and ensure compliance with display standards.
• Maintain the in‑store asset register and support clearance ordering and allocation.
• Collaborate with Commercial, Retail Area Managers, Store Managers, Marketing and Visual Merchandising to align product pairings, planograms and POS materials with the macro space plan.
• Produce clear reports with cost and timeline estimates for stakeholders and contribute to continuous‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Experience delivering store refits, relocations or new openings in a retail environment.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret sales, profit and heat‑mapping data.
• Proven capability to work cross‑functionally with Commercial, Operations, Visual Merchandising and Supply Chain teams.
• Attention to detail in maintaining asset registers and ensuring compliance with display standards.
