Special Constable (Volunteer) – Dorset

About the role
The Special Constable role is a volunteer position with Dorset Police, supporting the safety and wellbeing of communities across Dorset. Volunteers work alongside regular officers, receive full police powers after training, and contribute a minimum of 16 hours each month.
Key responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas and respond to incidents as directed by senior officers.
- Assist in community engagement and public safety initiatives.
- Support regular police officers in investigations, traffic control, and event policing.
- Provide assistance and reassurance to members of the public in times of need.
- Complete required training and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of police procedures.
Required profile
- Honest, respectful and self‑less attitude.
- Motivated to contribute to community safety in spare time.
- Ability to commit at least 16 hours per month (approximately 4 hours per week).
- Willingness to adhere to the political restrictions set out in the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
