Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the role

The Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO) will lead the development and delivery of high‑quality SEN provision across the school. Reporting to the Head of School, you will ensure inclusive practice, support staff, and safeguard the wellbeing of pupils with special educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Strategically develop and monitor the school's SEN policy and provision.
• Observe classrooms, coach teachers and teaching assistants on inclusive practice.
• Maintain accurate SEN records, SEND register and Education, Health and Care Plans.
• Respond promptly to commissioning partners and manage admissions of suitable pupils.
• Collaborate with parents, external agencies and health professionals to support pupils' needs.
• Analyse pupil progress data and advise on resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and school safeguarding policies.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher with experience in special education.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation and best practice.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to lead, mentor staff and influence school improvement.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
• Experience with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Proficiency in maintaining detailed SEN documentation.
