Special Educational Needs (SEN) Complex Needs Teacher

About the role

The school is seeking a compassionate and skilled Complex Needs Teacher to support children and young people aged 4–19 with severe and profound learning difficulties, autism, and other complex needs. You will deliver highly personalised learning programmes that promote communication, independence, and life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the learning, progress and wellbeing of all pupils in your class.
• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons aligned with each pupil’s EHCP outcomes.
• Lead and collaborate with SEND Teaching Assistants to ensure high‑quality classroom provision.
• Deliver a broad curriculum covering functional literacy, numeracy, life skills and independence.
• Use communication approaches such as AAC, Makaton, PECS and sensory strategies where appropriate.
• Work closely with therapists, families and other professionals to provide a holistic education.
• Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment and uphold safeguarding standards.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Early Career Teacher (ECT) with a passion for SEND.
• Experience teaching pupils with complex learning needs, SLD, PMLD and/or autism.
• Primary or secondary teaching experience.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Resilience, patience, empathy and a positive attitude.
• Commitment to safeguarding and continuous professional development.
