Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

About the role

Tradewind Recruitment is partnering with primary schools in Barnet to place experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants on immediate and ongoing assignments. You will provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support for pupils with a range of SEND and work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver targeted support for pupils with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.
• Adapt learning resources and employ agreed strategies and communication tools.
• Track pupil progress against EHCP targets and help them access the wider curriculum.
• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group assistance to children with autism, ADHD, SLCN, SEMH and other needs.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting pupils with SEND in a primary school setting.
• Knowledge of ASC, ADHD, SLCN and SEMH.
• Familiarity with EHC plans and delivering support in line with EHCP targets.
• Experience using alternative communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS or visual timetables.
• Patient, consistent and nurturing approach with vulnerable pupils.
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable).
• Enhanced DBS and up‑to‑date safeguarding training.
