Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join our secondary school in Newham. You will work closely with pupils who have a range of SEND profiles, helping them access the curriculum and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with SEND.
• Assist teachers in adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Support academic, social and emotional development of pupils.
• Implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support strategies.
• Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Monitor and record student progress and contribute to review meetings.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.
• Patience, empathy and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to build positive, professional relationships with students and staff.
• Proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics; relevant qualifications desirable but not essential.
