Special Needs Learning Support Assistant – Worthing

About the role

This full‑time, term‑time position supports pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges in a nurturing school environment. It is ideal for recent graduates in Psychology, Criminology or Sociology who want hands‑on experience before pursuing careers in clinical or educational psychology, mental health, or youth justice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEN.
• Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour management and engagement strategies.
• Support personalised learning plans and behaviour interventions.
• Observe, record and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Build trusting relationships and maintain a safe, structured environment.
• Deliver personal care when required.

Required profile

• Degree in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology or a related field.
• Strong interest in child development, mental health and behaviour.
• Patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, reflective mindset.
• Ability to commute to Worthing and right to work in the UK.
