Special Purpose Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

This position offers a unique opportunity to join a forward‑thinking engineering company as a Mechanical Design Engineer, focusing on bespoke machine projects. You will work in a collaborative environment, leading innovative designs from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead cross‑functional technical teams, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Plan, manage and oversee design projects, ensuring deadlines, budgets and quality standards are met.
• Develop detailed mechanical systems using advanced simulations and optimisation techniques.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments and manage prototyping, testing and validation activities.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to align design efforts.
• Apply Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering principles to ensure smooth transition from concept to production.

Required profile

• HNC/HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Proven experience in bespoke machine design and successful project delivery.
• Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Methodical, innovative problem‑solving approach with excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SolidWorks, including concept modelling, detailed design and ISO‑compliant dimensioning.
