Special School Nurse

About the role

We are looking for a qualified nurse to join the Special School Nursing team at Woodlawn School in North Tyneside. The post provides nursing support, health education and advice to pupils, parents and school staff, and includes visits to other schools within the North Tyneside caseload.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care programmes for children and young people with complex health needs and a range of disabilities.
• Deliver skilled nursing support to enable pupils to access educational opportunities safely.
• Provide health education and promotion to support physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
• Offer training and advice to education and social‑care staff tailored to individual pupil needs.
• Visit additional schools on the caseload across North Tyneside as required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the NHS trust.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration.
• Experience working with children/young people with complex health conditions or disabilities.
• Ability to develop and evaluate individual care plans.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with pupils, families and staff.
• Willingness to travel to other schools within the designated area.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and medication administration.
• Health promotion and education techniques.
• Training and mentorship of non‑clinical staff.
