Specialist / Highly Speech and Language Therapist

About the role

Join Cygnet Hospital Taunton’s new 15‑bed neuro‑cognitive service as a Specialist / Highly Speech and Language Therapist. You will work with older adults who have complex cognitive, neurological and psychiatric conditions, helping them maintain communication, swallowing and overall quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and treat speech, communication, language and swallowing difficulties for a specialist caseload.
• Deliver therapy in line with Cygnet’s SLT pathway for neuro‑psychiatric and neuro‑degenerative services.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to implement management plans and up‑skill colleagues.
• Participate in large‑scale SLT projects across the organisation.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service development.

Required profile

• Degree or postgraduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• Registration with the HCPC and membership of the RCSLT.
• Experience working with complex neuro‑cognitive or neuro‑psychiatric patients.
• Ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Assessment and intervention for speech, language and communication disorders.
• Evaluation and management of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
• Knowledge of neuro‑cognitive and neuro‑degenerative conditions.
