Specialist SEN Tutor – Autism, SLD & ADHD (£35/hr)

About the role

New Chapter Tuition Ltd is seeking an experienced Specialist SEN Tutor to work with a young person who has severe learning difficulties, autism and ADHD. The role is long‑term, based in Southend‑on‑Sea, and focuses on delivering personalised, relationship‑led support to help the learner develop communication, emotional regulation and life‑skills.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 teaching sessions tailored to the learner’s EHCP outcomes and individual needs.
• Use sensory play, social stories, Zones of Regulation, structured games and other evidence‑based strategies to promote engagement.
• Support communication, emotional regulation and independence throughout each session.
• Collaborate with two support workers and the family to ensure consistency and progress.
• Adapt activities to the learner’s communication style, interests and sensory preferences.

Required profile

• Substantial experience tutoring or teaching young people with SEND.
• Proven ability to support learners with SLD, autism (ASC), ADHD and non‑verbal communication.
• Confidence using positive behaviour support and de‑escalation techniques.
• Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and relationship‑focused approaches.
• Patience, adaptability, creativity and a commitment to achieving the best outcomes.

Required skills

• Ability to design and deliver structured, play‑based learning sessions.

What we offer

• £35.00 per hour (PAYE) plus one paid hour per day for planning, preparation & assessment.
• All teaching resources and learning materials provided.
• Consistent long‑term hours, Monday‑Friday, 9:30 am‑2:30 pm.
• Meet & greet with the learner and family during the summer holidays before the start date.
