Specialty Doctor – Palliative Medicine (Fixed‑Term)

About the role
This fixed‑term Specialty Doctor position supports the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow, providing maternity cover and an opportunity to develop expertise in palliative medicine. It is suitable for doctors seeking experience in hospice care or considering specialty training in this field.
Key responsibilities
- Provide medical assessment, support and care for hospice inpatients, outpatients and the Wellbeing Service.
- Participate in teaching, management activities and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Lead audit and quality‑improvement projects to maintain clinical excellence.
- Deliver first on‑call cover for the hospice and the regional advice line, including out‑of‑hours clinical response.
- Return to the hospice site when required for urgent clinical needs.
Required profile
- Full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
- At least 4 years full‑time postgraduate training (including 2 years in relevant acute specialties or equivalent).
- MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Communication skills sensitive to patients and carers.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable).

- Clinical assessment and symptom management in palliative care.
What we offer
- NHS Specialty Doctor pay scale £64,158‑£99,975 per annum pro rata, plus 2% availability supplement and 1.5 PA.
- 6 PAs (24 hours) per week with on‑call commitment.
