Specialty Psychiatrist – Older Adults Inpatient Team

About the role

The West London NHS Trust is recruiting a Specialty Psychiatrist to join the older adults inpatient team, working across the Jubilee and Limes wards. The post is a newly created substantive position within the Ealing older adults service, reporting to the supervising consultant and the OPMHS Service Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for patients aged 65+ with dementia, challenging behaviours, and functional diagnoses.
• Lead and participate in weekly ward rounds (Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday) and board handover meetings.
• Manage medication regimens and therapeutic interventions for complex older‑adult cases.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing, psychology, and allied health professionals.
• Provide clinical leadership, supervise junior staff, and ensure safe patient flow across wards.
• Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full GMC registration.
• Experience in adult psychiatry, preferably with older‑adult or dementia services.
• Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
• Professional accountability to a supervising consultant and operational accountability to the service manager.
