Specification Engineer – Fluid‑Handling Automation

About the role

The Specification Engineer will join a leading British engineering firm that designs and manufactures critical automated fluid‑handling and hygienic processing solutions for biotech, pharmaceutical and other high‑tech sectors. Based in Bishop's Stortford, you will develop detailed technical specifications for mechanical, pneumatic and instrumentation equipment and support procurement and inspection activities.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed specifications and drawings for mechanical, pneumatic and electrical instrumentation components in collaboration with design engineers and project managers.
• Review project requirements, create technical plans, and issue documentation to suppliers for quoting and purchase.
• Coordinate factory activities such as weld tests, procedures and third‑party inspections, working closely with QA management.
• Monitor supplier performance (OTIF, quality, cost) and report findings to QA.
• Ensure compliance with the company QMS, relevant regulations and contractual obligations.
• Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and internal teams.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Process or Chemical Engineering preferred).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Teams, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
