Specification Engineer – Technical Documentation & Design

About the role

The Specification Engineer works under the Engineering Manager and collaborates with Sales, Design, Purchasing, Production, suppliers and customers. The role focuses on creating technical specifications, drawings and documentation that support project delivery and business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Generate internal technical specifications, 2D drawings and assembly drawings from quotations and customer requirements.
• Create product structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings in the ERP system to enable timely procurement.
• Ensure all required drawings are approved and released for each work order.
• Compile manuals and technical documentation for work orders.
• Maintain standard product documentation, configuration files and the parts library.
• Communicate with customers, suppliers and internal teams to obtain approvals and resolve issues.
• Support engineering and production through version control and change management processes.
• Uphold quality, health, safety and environmental standards in line with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Required profile

• Desirable UK Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience using 2D drawing software.
• Working knowledge of AC (single‑phase and three‑phase) and DC systems (24 V, 48 V, 110 V, 220 V up to 350 A).
• Understanding of EMC best practices and signal segregation.
• Good numeracy and project/process management abilities.

Required skills

• 2D drawing software such as Autodesk products or Eplan.
• Microsoft 365 suite, including Excel and Word.
• ERP system usage for creating BOMs and routings.
• Creation and maintenance of configuration files based on product specifications.
• Version control and engineering change management.
