Speech and Language Teaching Assistant

About the role

Academics is looking for a caring Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support primary‑school pupils in Brighton & Hove. The role involves working closely with teachers, SENCOs and Speech and Language Therapists to help children develop communication, language and social skills.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with speech, language and communication needs.
• Deliver targeted interventions and communication programmes under specialist guidance.
• Encourage confidence, social interaction and language development.
• Assist pupils in accessing classroom learning opportunities.
• Monitor and record progress against intervention targets.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external professionals.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or SEN setting.
• Interest in speech, language, communication or child development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.
• Relevant qualifications or experience in education, psychology, childcare or SEN support are desirable but not essential.
