Speech and Language Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Lambeth)

About the role

We are looking for a caring Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support primary‑school pupils in Lambeth. The role involves working closely with teachers, SENCOs and Speech and Language Therapists to help children develop communication, language and social skills.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with speech, language and communication needs.
• Deliver targeted interventions and communication programmes under guidance of teaching staff and specialists.
• Encourage development of speech, language, social interaction and confidence.
• Assist pupils in accessing classroom learning opportunities.
• Monitor and record progress against intervention targets.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external professionals.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or SEN setting.
• Interest in speech, language, communication or child development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of speech and language support techniques.
