Speech and Language Therapist (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Join a respected charitable organisation in North East England as a Speech and Language Therapist. This 9‑12 month contract provides maternity cover for a specialist educational setting, delivering therapy to students with complex communication needs.

Key responsibilities

• Assess students' speech, language and communication needs and develop EHCP‑aligned therapy plans.
• Deliver individualised therapy sessions, using evidence‑based approaches and specialist tools such as AAC.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and produce detailed progress reports for families and professionals.
• Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, families and the wider multidisciplinary team to embed communication strategies into learning.
• Provide training and guidance to staff, carers and families, and support risk‑assessment and safeguarding compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified Speech and Language Therapist with HCPC registration.
• Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
• Experience working with children and young people with complex communication needs, preferably in an educational or additional‑needs setting.
• Enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory occupational health clearance.
