SpLD Tutor – Supporting Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties

About the role

The SpLD Tutor will provide specialist support to students with specific learning difficulties across a range of courses at Newcastle College. This part‑time, permanent position involves one‑to‑one sessions, diagnostic interviews and the creation of flexible learning materials.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver multi‑sensory, cumulative literacy programmes tailored to individual needs.
• Conduct screening, diagnostic interviews and assessments for dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, AD(H)D and autism.
• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
• Prepare and adapt learning resources to support diverse learning styles.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate SpLD strategies into wider curricula.

Required profile

• Relevant degree (e.g., Psychology, Education, or related field).
• Post‑graduate Diploma/Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties (AMBDA) preferred or working towards it.
• Teaching qualification such as DTLLS or PGCE.
• Experience in the FE sector supporting learners with dyslexia, dyspraxia, AD(H)D or autism.
• Ability to design and deliver multi‑sensory literacy and study‑skills programmes.
