Sports Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are partnering with a large SEND school in Stockport to recruit a Sports Teaching Assistant. The role supports identified pupils with diverse needs, particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, helping them engage with the curriculum and regulate emotions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide targeted support to pupils during sports and physical education sessions.
• Assist pupils in following the curriculum pathway and encourage active participation.
• Support emotional regulation, sensory needs, and behaviour management for SEMH pupils.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and teaching staff to implement tailored interventions.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and any incidents.

Required profile

• Background in sports coaching, youth work, or a related field.
• Confidence in supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviours.
• Resilience, passion for inclusive education, and a commitment to the ‘bigger picture’ of pupil development.
• Willingness to undergo school‑provided training on specific interventions.

Required skills

• Competitive daily rate of £95‑£110, dependent on experience.
• Full‑time placement (08:20‑15:30, Monday‑Friday, term‑time).
