SQL Database Administrator (Remote, 4-6 months)

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Database Services team. The role involves administering, maintaining, optimizing performance and securing Microsoft SQL Server environments for production workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade and patch Microsoft SQL Server instances and databases.
• Monitor and tune performance, resolve locking issues and optimise queries and indexes.
• Design, implement and test backup, recovery, high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping and Replication.
• Troubleshoot incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and participate in on‑call rotations.
• Apply security best practices, conduct audits and support regulatory compliance.
• Document procedures, maintain runbooks and develop automation scripts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 3‑5 years hands‑on experience as a SQL Server DBA managing production environments.
• Active SC clearance.

Required skills

• Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration.
• T‑SQL development and troubleshooting.
• SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
• Backup, recovery and high‑availability technologies (Always On, Log Shipping, Replication, Database Mirroring).
• PowerShell or other scripting for automation.
• Windows Server fundamentals.
• Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance or SQL Server on Azure VM (nice‑to‑have).
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Oracle or MySQL (nice‑to‑have).
• Experience with monitoring tools such as SCOM, SolarWinds, Redgate or SQL Sentry.
