Staff Nurse – Clinical Haematology

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recruiting a Staff Nurse to join the Clinical Haematology team at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The role supports patients receiving chemotherapy and related cancer treatments, working Monday‑Friday within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patient needs and develop evidence‑based care plans, considering lifestyle, gender and cultural background.
• Maintain accurate patient records in line with NMC guidelines.
• Provide out‑of‑hours advice and refer to medical staff when required.
• Perform venous access procedures, including cannulation, venepuncture, IV injection and management of indwelling catheters.
• Reconstitute intravenous medications safely following health‑and‑safety protocols.
• Deliver health promotion information to patients and families before and after treatment.
• Contribute to clinical appraisal of pre‑registration nurses and participate in performance appraisal processes.
• Support research, audit activities and the creation of a positive learning environment.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration.
• Experience in oncology or haematology settings is desirable.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care and continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Venous access techniques (cannulation, venepuncture, IV injection).
• Management of indwelling intravenous catheters.
• Intravenous medication preparation and reconstitution.
• Accurate clinical documentation per NMC standards.
