Staff Nurse

About the role

The Staff Nurse delivers high‑quality, safe and compassionate patient care as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team. Working within Trust policies and the NMC Code, the role involves assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating evidence‑based nursing care for a diverse patient population.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient‑centred nursing care in line with Trust policies, professional standards and evidence‑based practice.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care plans, respecting patient preferences.
• Administer medication and treatments safely, following local protocols, NICE guidance and the NMC Code.
• Monitor and record patients’ physical and emotional wellbeing, escalating concerns promptly.
• Maintain accurate, confidential patient records using electronic and paper‑based systems.
• Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals, healthcare assistants and other team members to ensure coordinated care.
• Offer health education, advice and emotional support to patients, relatives and carers.
• Participate in handovers, ward rounds, team meetings, audits and service‑improvement initiatives.
• Uphold infection prevention and control standards to keep the clinical environment safe and therapeutic.
• Support supervision and development of junior staff, students and new team members where appropriate.
• Maintain professional competence through mandatory training, CPD and reflective practice.

Required profile

• Commitment to professional standards and adherence to the NMC Code.
• Willingness to engage in mandatory training, continuing professional development and reflective practice.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and maintain patient confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic patient record systems.
