Staff Nurse – Medical High Dependency Unit

About the role

An exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join the Medical High Dependency Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You will deliver safe, high‑quality, person‑centred care in a fast‑paced acute environment while developing advanced clinical skills.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence‑based care for patients in a high‑dependency setting.
• Deliver direct clinical care, including technical and invasive procedures, following best practice standards.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in line with NMC guidelines.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective communication and continuity of care.
• Supervise and support junior staff, students and unregistered staff, fostering a positive learning environment.
• Contribute to quality improvement through audit, research and implementation of clinical standards.
• Assist in the day‑to‑day organisation of the clinical area, ensuring safe and efficient use of resources.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current UK NMC registration.
• At least one year post‑registration experience (Band 5 or equivalent desirable).
• Completion of the Flying Start Programme or willingness to undertake further study.
• Interest in acute or critical care nursing and commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to support patients and families in challenging situations.
• Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced, technologically advanced clinical environment.
• Demonstrated independent judgement and teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.
