Staff Nurse - Registered General Nurse

About the role

Our Staff Nurses deliver a wide range of clinical services within the prison healthcare setting. Working across primary care, acute care and emergency response, you will provide high‑quality care to inmates while promoting health and managing long‑term conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide acute and primary care, including long‑term condition management, health screening and promotion.
• Run daily clinics covering urgent care, medication administration, immunisations, wound care and care planning.
• Respond to emergencies on prison wings, in healthcare facilities and communal areas.
• Deliver diagnostic assessments and interventions in line with NHS standards.
• Supervise, mentor and safely delegate tasks to junior staff, students and unregistered personnel.
• Uphold Trust values and the NMC Code of Conduct in all interactions.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Ability to exercise professional autonomy and make complex clinical judgments.
• Experience in primary care, medication administration and emergency response within a secure environment is desirable.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.
