Staff Nurse – Short Stay Surgery (Newly Qualified)

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Short Stay Surgery unit. This position is ideal for newly qualified nurses or those due to qualify soon, offering exposure to a diverse range of acute patients and specialist surgical care.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high standards of patient care in line with Trust policies and nursing procedures.
• Coordinate the ward in the absence of senior staff, ensuring smooth operation.
• Maintain confidentiality, accurate documentation, and timely escalation of incidents, complaints, and staffing concerns.
• Support the learning and development of students and new staff, fostering a positive learning environment.
• Provide holistic care from admission to discharge, including pre‑ and post‑operative care, rehabilitation needs, and pain management.
• Promote health and wellbeing, adhere to infection control standards, and use resources efficiently with budget awareness.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse (essential).
• Newly qualified nurses are welcomed, including those due to qualify in the coming months.
• Desirable: experience in surgical settings, mentorship experience, evidence of further academic studies.
