Strategic Audit & Assurance Business Partner

About the role

The Strategic Audit & Assurance Business Partner will act as Deputy Chief Auditor, leading the integration of internal audit, risk management and assurance across Buckinghamshire Council. This senior position will shape how the Council understands risk, gains insight and makes strategic decisions, supporting good governance and delivery of public services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for internal audit, risk management and integrated assurance functions.
• Advise senior leaders and elected members on risk, assurance and governance matters.
• Design and embed a new, insight‑led assurance framework that aligns with Council priorities.
• Collaborate with the Business Assurance Management Team and the Head of Business Assurance to drive continuous improvement.
• Oversee the development of assurance reports, ensuring they add clear value to decision‑making.
• Support the Business Assurance integration programme and contribute to its potential transition to a permanent function.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in audit, risk management or assurance within a large public sector organisation.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic change.
• Strong understanding of governance, risk and assurance best practices.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of building high‑performing teams.

• Salary up to £78,453 per annum, dependent on experience.
• Initial 9‑month fixed‑term contract with the possibility of extension to 12 months and future permanent appointment.
