Strategic FP&A Manager – Interim (Public Sector)

About the role

This interim position supports a UK public‑sector organisation by leading budgeting, forecasting and capital reporting that directly influences senior decision‑making. You will strengthen month‑end performance, improve forecast accuracy and ensure compliance with IFRS and the Government Finance Reporting Manual (FreM).

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and explain significant budget variances with remedial action plans.
• Lead the annual budgeting cycle, including modelling, forecasting and baseline budget management.
• Advise directors and senior managers on capital accounting, financial planning, risk and cost pressures.
• Deliver timely monthly financial and management reports in close partnership with the finance accounting function.
• Own capital accounting delivery – profiling, valuations, impairment review, balance‑sheet classification.
• Maintain fixed‑asset register integrity and support audit recommendation implementation.

Required profile

• Strong public‑sector management accounting experience.
• Professional body membership or equivalent qualification.
• Senior finance experience providing effective professional advice.
• Extensive experience across planning, monitoring, analysis and reporting.
• Deep technical knowledge of IFRS, FreM and capital accounting.
