Student Welfare Officer

About the role

The Student Welfare Officer will join an existing faculty team to provide essential welfare and pastoral support to students. This full‑time position focuses on promoting student wellbeing, addressing safeguarding concerns, and helping students at risk of withdrawing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide welfare and pastoral support to all students.
• Support students with disabilities and long‑term health conditions.
• Conduct initial wellbeing assessments and identify safeguarding issues.
• Refer safeguarding concerns to the appropriate services.
• Work proactively with students at risk of withdrawal and manage a caseload of welfare cases.
• Develop and deliver workshops and presentations on wellbeing topics.
• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date student welfare records.

Required profile

• Degree in Health, Psychology, Counselling or a related field.
• Diploma in Counselling, Student Welfare or a comparable qualification.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a student support role, preferably in further education.
• Good knowledge of safeguarding legislation and mental health issues affecting higher‑education students.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
