Supply Teaching Assistant – SEN Support (Primary)

About the role

We are looking for a Supply Teaching Assistant to provide in‑class support for a pupil with social and emotional regulation needs in a mainstream primary setting. The role is temporary, covering Monday‑Thursday (8:30 am‑3:30 pm) and Friday mornings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide flexible, emotionally attuned support to help the pupil access learning.
• Support regulation during difficult moments or transitions, especially from preferred activities back to structured lessons.
• Use low‑demand, non‑confrontational approaches and adapt communication style to the pupil’s emotional state.
• Work with visual supports and established classroom routines.
• Shift quickly between focused pupil support and supporting a group or table as needed.
• Collaborate with the class teacher to maintain learning across the class.
• Occasionally support another pupil with additional needs.

Required profile

• Calm, patient and resilient personality.
• Experience supporting pupils with additional needs, or confidence in doing so.
• Comfortable in unpredictable or changeable situations.
• Consistent and supportive during periods of dysregulation.
• Ability to build positive relationships quickly and professionally.
• Not suited to candidates who prefer highly structured, compliance‑based behaviour management.
