Support Staff – Primary PRU (Eccles)

About the role

This temporary to long‑term position supports a specialist Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Eccles. You will work directly with primary‑aged pupils who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour, helping them thrive in a structured learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day support for pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
• Build trusting relationships that encourage engagement and confidence.
• Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities.
• Promote positive behaviour using consistent management techniques.
• Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, social development and self‑regulation.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and external professionals to achieve individual pupil goals.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people who have SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Transferable skills from youth work, care work, coaching, mentoring or residential settings.
• Calm, patient, resilient and proactive attitude.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) registered on the Update Service.

Required skills

• Knowledge of behaviour management and de‑escalation techniques (desirable).
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures (desirable).
• Familiarity with Team Teach or similar positive behaviour training (desirable).
