Support Worker – Person‑Centred Care for Autism & Learning Disabilities

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Support Worker to deliver person‑centred care within a supported living setting for adults with autism and learning disabilities. The role focuses on promoting independence, wellbeing and inclusion in daily life.

Key responsibilities

• Assist individuals with autism and learning disabilities to live as independently as possible.
• Provide personal care, meal preparation, nutrition support and medication prompting where required.
• Maintain clean and safe living spaces through housekeeping duties.
• Encourage positive routines and meaningful activities that support wellbeing and communication.
• Implement individual support plans and behavioural strategies, using breakaway and de‑escalation techniques safely.
• Promote dignity, choice, privacy and safeguarding at all times.
• Record accurate support notes, incident reports and daily logs.
• Collaborate with the wider team, families, advocates and health professionals.
• Attend training and supervision to develop skills in autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour support.

Required profile

• Experience working with adults who have autism or learning disabilities (preferred).
• Understanding of person‑centred support and positive behavioural approaches.
• Confidence using breakaway and de‑escalation techniques (training provided if needed).
• Strong communication skills and ability to build trust.
• Willingness to work shifts and maintain professional standards under pressure.
• Ability to follow care plans, record accurately and act quickly in emergencies.
