Surface Preparation Operative

About the role

We are seeking a Surface Preparation Operative to join a busy manufacturing business in Reading. The role involves preparing metal components for the powder‑coating stage, ensuring they meet high quality standards before moving forward in production.

Key responsibilities

• Sanding and preparing metal parts for powder coating.
• Removing surface imperfections and defects.
• Cleaning and degreasing components prior to processing.
• Masking products where required.
• Conducting visual quality inspections.
• Using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Maintaining a clean and organised work area.
• Following all health and safety procedures.

Required profile

• Previous experience in manufacturing, production, engineering, assembly or similar preparation work (advantageous).
• Experience with sanding equipment, grinders or hand tools (desirable).
• Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
• Physically fit and able to work in warm environments (up to 35 °C).
• Full UK driving licence and own transport.
• Ability to pass a DBS check.
• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
