Surfacing Foreperson

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Surfacing Foreperson to lead road surfacing and highway maintenance crews on projects across Inverness and Elgin. The role involves hands‑on supervision, ensuring safety, quality and timely delivery while coordinating with Contracts Managers and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise surfacing operatives on site, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to required quality standards.
• Plan, coordinate and oversee daily surfacing activities in line with programme requirements.
• Ensure safe laying, levelling and finishing of asphalt materials.
• Supervise operation of surfacing plant, tools and equipment, ensuring correct use and maintenance.
• Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks and enforce company procedures and safe systems of work.
• Monitor productivity, quality and progress, reporting updates to Contracts Managers.
• Carry out routine inspections of plant, equipment and PPE, reporting defects promptly.
• Promote a positive safety culture by reporting and addressing hazards, incidents, defects and near misses.
• Liaise with clients, subcontractors and the wider project team to ensure successful project delivery.
• Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a surfacing or highways supervisory/foreperson role.
• Strong leadership, communication and team‑management abilities.
• Good understanding of asphalt surfacing operations and health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Ability to organise workloads and manage site activities effectively.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and performance.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Flexible approach to working hours and site locations.
