Syndicate Financial Controller (London)

About the role

The Syndicate Financial Controller will oversee reporting and accounting for two to three managed syndicates within Poloworks’ Managing Agency business. Based in London, this client‑facing position requires deep expertise in insurance accounting, GAAP, and Lloyd’s regulatory reporting, supporting both internal committees and external auditors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end reporting and accounting for assigned syndicates, including GAAP accounts and Lloyd’s quarterly/annual returns.
• Lead the quarterly close process, set timetables, and coordinate deliverables with internal and external stakeholders.
• Oversee external audit planning, execution, and issue resolution in partnership with the Finance Director.
• Support onboarding of new syndicates and assist with potential migration to independent managing agents.
• Develop and standardise external financial reports for the Syndicate Management and Audit Committees.
• Drive improvements to reporting systems, processes, and management information for senior leadership.
• Ensure financial controls align with the Group’s control framework and address any gaps.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in insurance accounting and Lloyd’s regulatory reporting.
• Proven ability to manage complex financial close cycles and audit processes.
• Strong client‑facing skills with experience liaising across finance, actuarial, data, and claims teams.
• Track record of implementing process improvements in a fast‑growing, change‑focused environment.
