Systems Administrator - OT Environment

About the role

National Grid Electricity Transmission is seeking a Systems Administrator to join its Operational Technology (OT) team. The role is based at our Birmingham Hams Hall and Warwick sites and focuses on supporting a critical remote backup platform that serves over 200 substations across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, monitor and maintain more than 200 OT hosts and virtual machines, ensuring high performance and availability.
• Perform regular health checks, maintenance tasks and fault resolution on the remote backup platform.
• Support the secure backup solution that captures and transfers substation data to a centralised library.
• Assist with infrastructure deployment and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools.
• Administer Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID services, including domain management and system integration.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking and system issues across operational environments.
• Work with cybersecurity specialists to implement security controls for OT systems.
• Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and regulatory evidence.

Required profile

• Proven experience in systems administration within enterprise or OT environments.
• Strong understanding of server, virtual machine and infrastructure management.
• Experience with scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency.
• Ability to collaborate with asset managers, infrastructure specialists and cyber security teams.
