Systems Engineer

About the role

Engineers Gate (EG), a quantitative, computer-driven investment manager founded in 2014, is hiring a Systems Engineer for its Systems Infrastructure team in London. The team covers all layers of technology, from networking to servers and application services, and reports to the Head of Infrastructure. The engineer will start with day-to-day system administration and end-user support, then grow into larger projects independently.

Key responsibilities

• Day-to-day system administration and support of end-user systems
• Design, implementation, operation and support of the infrastructure, working in a flat team
• Conduct independent research and propose solutions to emerging problems and improvements to current processes
• Work within a Linux-centric, multi-tenant AWS cloud environment
• Use configuration management tools such as Ansible and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
• Manage containerized workloads (e.g. AWS ECS and Batch) and cloud-managed services (DBaaS, IaaS)
• Support user-facing systems on Windows, Mac and Linux, and a SaaS-heavy corporate environment

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in CS, EE or a related field
• 3-7 years of professional experience in a technology-related field
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage projects independently
• Able to learn new platforms and technologies quickly
• Technical aptitude in areas previously worked in, with the ability to think systemically

Required skills

• Linux server administration
• Scripting and programming (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
• Public cloud experience, particularly AWS
• Desirable: Windows and Active Directory administration, desktop support, security and compliance controls, MDM/MAM, videoconferencing and email administration, database administration, financial industry experience
