Tax Assistant Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Tax Assistant Manager to join a leading Scottish chartered accountancy firm. You will manage a portfolio of private clients, working closely with the Tax Partner and Senior Manager to deliver high‑quality tax services. Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the preparation of personal tax returns for private clients.
• Handle written negotiations and correspondence with HMRC on enquiries.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and meet all filing deadlines.
• Manage billing, work‑in‑progress (WIP) and monitor tax compliance using tax administration software.
• Maintain internal control records and adhere to quality control procedures.
• Mentor and train Tax Seniors and Assistants, delegating work and providing constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with client service teams and other disciplines to deliver coordinated services.

Required profile

• Relevant professional qualification (CA, ATT, CTA, STEP or equivalent).
• Proven experience in private client tax or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation.
• Leadership abilities and a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective project and time‑management capabilities, able to work to tight deadlines and budgets.

Required skills

• Proficiency with tax administration software.
• Understanding of UK tax legislation and personal tax return processes.
