Tax Disputes Manager

About the role

Our boutique tax investigations firm is seeking an experienced Tax Disputes Manager to lead high‑value, technically complex HMRC investigations. You will work directly with clients and HMRC, shaping strategy from enquiry through to settlement while contributing to the firm’s growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage complex HMRC tax investigations from initial enquiry to settlement.
• Lead investigations under HMRC Code of Practice 8 (COP8) and Code of Practice 9 (COP9).
• Advise clients on disclosures, information requests, settlement negotiations, penalties and compliance.
• Liaise directly with HMRC investigators and negotiate outcomes.
• Draft technical correspondence, reports and submissions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, intermediaries and professional advisers.
• Support the wider team with technical expertise and contribute to business development.

Required profile

• Strong experience in UK tax investigations and dispute resolution.
• Demonstrable COP8 and COP9 experience.
• Proven ability to manage investigations independently and engage directly with HMRC.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly.
• Professional qualification (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) is advantageous but not mandatory.
