Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools (Full‑time/Part‑time)

About the role

Teaching Personnel is recruiting Teaching Assistants for primary schools across Southampton, starting in September 2026. The role can be full‑time or part‑time and is temporary, offering the chance to support pupils with a range of learning and behavioural needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality 1:1 and 1:2 support for pupils with learning, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Assist teachers in delivering differentiated and accessible lessons.
• Support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those requiring additional behavioural or physical assistance.
• Safely manage pupils who display physical behaviours that challenge.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals to monitor and promote pupil progress.
• Help create a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Proven experience providing 1:1 or 1:2 support.
• Ability to remain patient, calm and adaptable in diverse situations.
• Strong communication, behaviour management and teamwork skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting learning, wellbeing and personal development.
