Teaching Assistant – SEND Department (Maths/English/Science)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant with a Communication and Interaction specialism to join the Special Educational Needs (SEND) department of Gloucestershire’s largest comprehensive school. Working closely with subject leaders and teachers, you will help pupils with SEND make excellent progress across Maths, English and Science.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 intervention, small‑group work and main classroom support for SEND students.
• Establish a safe, respectful learning environment and promote positive behaviour.
• Register students for interventions, ensure punctuality, uniform compliance and readiness to learn.
• Develop professional relationships with colleagues and draw on specialist advice when needed.
• Adopt effective teaching strategies to support the teacher and raise achievement for all pupils.
• Encourage inclusion by facilitating participation in lessons and extracurricular activities.
• Assist with monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil performance and progress.

Required profile

• Minimum GCSE grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
• Communication and Interaction specialism, or strong subject knowledge in Maths, English or Science.
• Experience or strong interest in supporting pupils with SEND.
• Ability to work 30.5 hours per week during term time (39 weeks per year).
