About the role
We are seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to join primary schools in Barking & Dagenham. The positions are long‑term, starting September 2026, and focus on supporting children with Special Educational Needs, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and Autism.
Key responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 support for pupils with SEN, SEMH, or Autism.
- Collaborate with class teachers and the school SENCO to adapt learning materials.
- Encourage socialisation, peer interaction, and positive behaviour.
- Support children’s emotional regulation and development.
- Build constructive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a teaching assistant, preferably with SEN/SEMH/Autism pupils.
- Understanding of communication, sensory, and social differences in children with Autism.
- Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusive education.
- Ability to identify and respond to individual learning and sensory needs.
Required skills
- Clear, consistent, and supportive communication strategies.
- Adaptation of learning resources to meet diverse needs.
- Positive behaviour management techniques.
