Teaching Assistant – Support for SEND Pupils

About the role

Join Witherslack Group as a Teaching Assistant at Oversands School, an independent specialist day school in Grange‑over‑Sands, Cumbria. You will work directly with children and young people who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them achieve daily learning victories.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils during lessons, reinforcing learning objectives and encouraging participation.
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation, resource organisation and classroom management.
• Promote self‑esteem and personal development through tailored activities and positive reinforcement.
• Monitor pupil progress, record observations and communicate insights to senior staff.
• Help manage challenging behaviours with calm, consistent strategies.

Required profile

• Resilient and dedicated attitude towards supporting young people with complex needs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.
• Passion for fostering inclusive learning environments.
