Teaching Assistant – Support SEMH & ASD Students

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join an outstanding independent secondary school in North London. You will work with students aged 11‑18 who have special educational needs, focusing on social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) and autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). The role offers an immediate start and the chance to make a meaningful impact within a supportive team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group academic support to SEMH and ASD students.
- Promote a positive, inclusive classroom environment and offer emotional support as needed.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
- Assist with lesson planning and delivery.
- Follow safeguarding policies to ensure student safety and well‑being.
Required profile
- Right to work in the UK and a current DBS check.
- Previous experience as a teaching assistant, preferably with SEMH or ASD pupils.
- Patient, proactive attitude and ability to work under pressure.
Required skills
- Experience supporting students with SEMH and ASD.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
